Prayer is the most important mission we as Christians will ever be called to do.

With the continual threat of division, darkness, and destruction on our nation, watchmen are critical for the protection of the city. In 2004, His Vessel Ministries responded by organizing a prayer team called the Watchmen Over the City.

Calling intercessors to be Watchmen for our city, state, and nation is taken very seriously, and we know that the work of any task is first done in prayer. Being strategically located at the gate of the city of Montgomery allows Watchmen to “stay on the wall” praying and fasting for specific needs. As a result, citizens have seen God protect our streets, leaders, businesses, homes, and the Church. Providing leadership through the Watchmen puts His Vessel Ministries on call 24 hours a day.

In 2015, His Vessel Ministries began organizing Watchmen in other counties in the state of Alabama. The goal is to have Watchmen praying in unity in all 67 counties. Currently, we have Watchmen organized in 11 counties. As Watchmen pray in unity, standing shield to shield throughout the state, we believe God will be a protective wall of fire around Alabama (Zechariah 2:5). The more Watchmen praying, the higher the firewall of protection.

What We Pray

Praying for the peace of the city is an important mission we are willing to do!

Daily since 2004, individuals have and continue to commit to watching (guarding) the city through fasting and prayer. Every day at least one or more watchmen walk the streets of the city praying for repentance in the city (Ezekiel 18:30–32), awakening of the city from its apostasy (Hosea 8:1), and protection from spiritual and physical invasion of the enemy (Jeremiah 4:5), as well as reporting any sign of danger approaching the city (2 Samuel 18:24–27). We know "unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.”

Weekly since 2007, watchmen gather at the Vessel Room during the Thursday noon hour to intercede for the city, the state, and the nation. Citizens corporately ask God to hear the cry of repentance and to restore righteousness to the land. Watchmen pray for the authorities as well as specific laws and cultural issues that affect the home, church, and nation.

Yearly on the National Day of Prayer, His Vessel Ministries coordinates a city-wide prayer breakfast. Citizens from all backgrounds gather to pray for the governing authorities that we might lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. It proves to be a worship encounter as the Christian community experiences a time of refreshing in the presence of the Lord.

How We Pray

Each Watchmen team member is assigned one day out of a 40-day cycle. Every 40 days, a new assignment date is given; there is no sign-in or sign-out, the Watchmen simply report to God on the assigned day. We encourage team members to fast during their prayer time, if they are physically able.

When & Where We Pray

The Watchmen seek the leading of the Holy Spirit of God as to what time of the day to pray—each team member prays as God leads, for as long as God leads. Some team members pray from home, others pray as they walk their own neighborhood, others go downtown to watch and pray. Some pray alone; others meet with fellow Watchmen.
