Watchmen over the City

Of Montgomery

Prayer is the most important mission we as Christians will ever be called to do.  Let me say that again.  Prayer is the most important mission we as Christians will ever be called to do!  And that is exactly what many in the City of Montgomery, who have a heart for the city, are committed to do.  Individuals commit to watching over the city of Montgomery through fasting and praying.  Everyday at least one watchman is assigned and committed to praying for the needs of the city.   We know, “…unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.”

Watchmen are critical for many reasons.  In the Bible, watchmen would pray for repentance in the city (Ezekiel 18:30-32). They were called to wake up the city from its apostasy (Hosea 8:1) and turn from destruction (Amos 3:6).  Praying watchmen provide protection from invasion (Jeremiah 4:5) and report any sign of danger approaching the city (II Samuel 18:24-27).

With the continual threat of division, darkness, and terrorism presently on our nation, watchmen are critical for the protection of the city.   In fact, it is felt to be a mandate from the throne of God!

Each watchman prays for three specific things:  repentance of the city, peace of the city of Montgomery and its authorities, and the peace of Jerusalem.  Each watchman is assigned one day out of a 40-day cycle.  Every 40 days, a new assignment date is given to each watchman.  There is no sign-in or sign-out, each watchman simply reports to God on his/her assigned day!  The watchman seeks the leading of the Holy Spirit of God what time of the day to pray, where in downtown of the city to watch and pray, and how long to pray on their assigned day.

                      The Call…

Any Christian who has a heart for God, a heart for the City of Montgomery, and who is willing to humble themselves before God with a pure heart is encouraged to pray about being a part of this call.  At the present, there are over 65 watchmen participating.  To obtain additional information, you can email Jo Hancock of His Vessel Ministries at jo@hisvessel.org and indicate in the subject line of your email it is in reference to “watchman mission over the city.”

The people of Montgomery are ready for an outward manifestation of God and know it will only come through prayer from a pure and humbled heart!  There is a strong anticipation of a great movement of God in the city of Montgomery, Alabama.

Testimony from a Disciple

From a Disciple who is discipling others:

One lady in my group  has been a Christian forever, but now her eyes are opened wide.  She cannot drink enough of God in.  She is praying so hard for her children and her husband so their eyes can be opened too and for wounds to be healed in their family, which is a good one, but to mend words, actions, and for the family to feel truly loved.   My other ladies struggle to read the material.  God seems to wake Jean up at 3 in the morning, and she will go in there and start reading.  She read the Stronghold of God in three or four days.  I am still reading that book.  She is a very tender and loving lady.

A divorced lady with one child….She just bought a home of her own (and we had bible study in it – beautiful).  She thought she was never good enough to own a home much less one built from the ground up.  Furniture was donated to her.  A brand new 40” flat screen TV was given as a home gift from a friend.  Her mom and dad never new about the house until it was closed and decorated because they are negative to her.  Her mom cried when she invited them to her new home.   She felt so unworthy and now she realizes how loved she is by God.  She is now starting to pray for her ex-husband.  God is good.

Testimony from God of Order Discipleship

September 16, 2010

His Vessel Ministries purposes to teach women God’s order for the home.  Monthly teachings focus on getting the home in spiritual and physical order according to God’s Word.  The teachings follow Titus 2:4-5 and include topics such as ordering the home to become a restful and secure dwelling place, restoring the family altar, loving and submitting to your husband, speaking blessings, loving your children, as well as being a discreet and pure women. Read the words of one disciple who particpated in this discipleship.

For two years I have been involved with the God of Order Order My Home discipleship at His Vessel Ministries.  I could not figure out why I was drawn to the teaching considering I am single,  have no children, and that is one of the focuses of the teaching.  But God has allowed me to see now that my home is in order-as He would have it, and His light shines forth through my home, people are beginning to want to come into my home to “gather.”  I can now share His light with others as they come into my home!  Being able to allow people to come to my home who have or are facing many of the same struggles I have in the past is a testimony to what God can and is willing to do for us when we seek His will.  And when we chase after Him with the urgency like we are looking for our next breath whether or not we understand it, He will use us.  He amazes me how good and how awesome He is in all situations when we seek His will and not our own!  Juli Johnson

God of Order Order My Home discipleship is a year-long ministry beginning in January of each year.  Should you have an interest in particpating in this exciting and rewarding discipleship ministry contact His Vessel Ministries at jo@hisvessel.org.  Place in the subject line God of Order Discipleship

Message from Disciple

September 9, 2010

The discipleship opportunities in His Vessel Ministries are exploding.  You will find it encouraging how one disciple in the Women’s Discipleship Class of 2005 is now sharing with others what she has applied to her life.  She writes:

I had my orientation meeting regarding discipleship on Saturday, August 28.  I had nine ladies show up and all nine committed to the discipleship with two additional ladies commiting.  I am so excited that the Father has entrusted me with 11 of His daughters!!

When the Father spoke to my heart that it was time to begin disciplining, He impressed upon me to invite the husbands/spiritual authorities to the orientation meeting as well.  Two brave men showed up with their wives.  My wonderfully supportive husband, Gordon was there also.  During our orientation, I explained to the ladies the journey we would take together over the next year; that we would fall in love with the Father, learn how He has uniquely gifted us spiritually, and how we can more fully serve our husbands, families, and homes all for God’s glory.  The Father allowed my husband Gordon and me to speak into the lives of the husbands as well.  For those of who don’t know Gordon ( Ms. Jo can attest to this) he is very much a behind the scenes kind of man.  He doesn’t want the spot light on him and doesn’t want to be noticed.  He was very adamant that he would not be saying a word during our orientation. However, Father God gave my precious husband the courage to share a few words from his heart.  Together, we shared with the husbands how they could participate in the journey.  They would be their wives’ spiritual covering by praying for her, helping to protect her time as she studies, and helpng arrange the time for her to attend the classes on Saturdays.  By the husbands investing in their wives this way they are ensured to reap the blessings of the laboring of their wives for the LORD.  We know when the LORD blesses a family member, the blessings  always extend to those in the home.

As we were planning for our orientation day, Gordon was very concerned about the number of people who would be coming and whether we had enough space to accommodate them.  He even suggested that we have it at the church.  But, I shared with Gordon I felt it was to take place in our home.  I reassured him that the Father would work all that out.  And HE did in such an awesome way!!  At the end of the orientation one of the ladies hugged me and shared how excited she was about the discipleship, that she had been waiting for something like this for such a long time.  At the end of our talk, she said the most wonderfully complimentary thing about the LORD:  She said she absolutely loved being in our home because there was such a sweet spirit there.  I shared this with Gordon afterwards and he said that one of our son’s friends had told Gordon he loved to come to our house and just hang out.  When Gordon shared that it dawned on me what both were saying.  Their spirits were witnessing to the presence of the Father in our home.  Because we have possessed the land in the name of the Father, our home is a place where the Father is welcomed and therefore He has put His name on our home as a place where He can dwell!!  That was confirmation to both Gordon and me that it’s in our home where disciplining will take place because as Ms. Jo has taught us, discipleship and worship first begin in the home.

My prayer for my ladies over the next year is that when they will come into our home for discipleship to learn how to go on with God, that they will not only learn from our words, but that will see it walked out by us as a family.  That they will see our family loving the Father and each other, and that they will desire to take that back to their homes so that when others visit them, they  too will desire that and that it will spread. Love and blessings,               Donna Remiger

Oh how thankful we are at His Vessel Ministries for the $12,200.00 received of the $30,000.00 needed for our current and projected operating expenses.  We also have an immediate need to purchase some office equipment:  computer and software, printer, telephone system, and wireless router.  This will cost approximately $2,500.00.   Pray with me that God will supply this need soon.  This will enable the ministry to establish an office at The Vessel Room, making the ministry more accessible to those who participate in the teachings and discipleship.  I am encouraged by the faithfulness of God to provide thus far. I know He will use His people to meet the present needs.

Should God ask you to be a vessel He works through to supply this need, you can send your monetary gift to His Vessel Ministries, 300 Water Street, Suite 100, Montgomery, AL  36104.  It is always a joy to watch how God fulfills His name, Jehovah-Jireh.

REMINDER:  The Vessel is now open every Tuesday, 12 noon to 5 PM.  Please stop by to view the valuable resources we have that will encourage and enhance your spiritual journey.

Time to Look to God

August 24, 2010

When our lives seem to spin out of control or we feel overwhelmed, the solution is simple.  Look to God.  Cry out to God.  Trust God.

God invites you to come to Him (to look to Him).  He speaks “Incline your ear, and come to Me.  Hear and your soul shall live...”  (Isaiah 55:3).  ”Come to Me all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest“  (Matthew 11:28).  It is that simple.  Stop running to others before you look to God.  Acknowledge His invitation to come to Him.  Accept His invitation by looking to Him.

Once you look to God, cry out to God.   Through history God’s people would  finally cry out to Him when things got beyond their control.  And God, in His faithfulness, always answered their cry.   It is His promise.  “The LORD shall not avenge His own elect [people] who cry out day and night to Him…”  (Luke 18:7).  With persistence cry out to God.    A book that has helped me make this Truth simple in my life is The Power of Crying Out by Bill Gothard.

Once you have cried out to God then TRUST God.  Believe who He is.  Believe what He says He will do.  And attach yourself to Him and never let go!

If it is so simple then why are we not doing it?  Perhaps we don’t know God.   We don’t know God’s ways (which certainly are not man’s ways [Isaiah 55:8]).  We don’t trust God.  We don’t believe He will do it for us.  Or maybe we don’t make it a priority to take time to look to God and cry out!   We ask others to look to God on our behalf but we feel inadequate.

Today my child, take authority in who you are in Christ Jesus.  Run to your Savior.  Trust Him with your circumstances.  See it as an opportunity to build your personal relationship with Him.  Somehow, in His presence, it always seems  our overwhelmed feelings fade away.

It is simple.  Remove all the perplexity of the world’s way of living and do it God’s way.  It will bring rest to your soul and peace to your life!

Please Continue to Pray with Me

His Vessel Ministries has received $10,600.00 toward its need for $30,000.00.  I am encouraged by the faithfulness of God to provide thus far.  To those of you whom God has used to help meet this need I know Father God will bless your obedience.  But above that God is blessed to see the sacrifice of His people.

As you recall this money is needed for current and projected operating expenses which will enable the ministry to continue the work it has been called to do.   God wants His people to bless His work.  And God is waiting to bless His people.  Would you join me in prayer asking Father God to continue to move among His people to bring in abundance to meet this immediate need?

Should God ask you to be a part of this blessing, you can send your contributions to His Vessel Ministries, 300 Water Street, Suite 100, Montgomery, AL  36104.  It is always a joy to watch how God moves among His people.
